Shay Murphy kept her promise and called me shortly after eleven o’clock this morning. She told me that the Florida Department of Health had approved mom’s eligibility to receive Social Security disability payments retroactively from December 1st, 2011 until her death on August 12th, 2012.
Shay said that her supervisor had approved mom’s eligibility, and now her case file would be transferred to the “coding unit”. From there it will be sent to the Federal Social Security office in Port Orange, Florida for processing. At the Federal office they will determine the amount of the disbursement. She told me that it could take quite a while, and it may be months before any funds are distributed. She said that because my sister was the one who had originally submitted the claim on mom’s behalf, the funds would be sent to her. I told her that was fine and she told me that my sister and I should do our best to stay close. I promised her that we would.
Shay was incredibly nice and offered her condolences on our loss multiple times.
