In early January of 2013, attorney Kelly Mathis responded to my question about how to notify attorney Steve Phillips that I was dissatisfied with his services:

Simply notify Mr. Phillips that his services are no longer required and that you have decided to retain another attorney.
I don’t want the cost of setting up the estate to get in the way if there is a good claim. Let’s get the nursing home records first and see what we have. We are going to send you a release to have the nursing home provide the records to us.

Okay. Thank you. I am going to email Mr. Phillips today to tell him that.
I trust you received the copy of the autopsy report I faxed you shortly before the holidays. Can you confirm receipt of that?
I am tremendously eager to make some progress on this.
How will you be sending the release? If you are unable to email, you can also send via fax to [redacted]. That is the fax machine at my office, so please somehow note that what you are sending is for me.
My home address is:
[redacted]
Thank you sincerely.
