When I was a kid I had a rolltop desk that I adored. It had been mom’s when she was a kid and is one of the only pieces of furniture that could be considered an heirloom in our family. (I’m pretty sure that desk is now in a storage unit in Florida with what’s left of mom’s possessions.) On a trip to my girlfriend’s aunt’s house in early 2001, I saw the exact same desk and emailed mom to tell her about it.

I took this photograph at [redacted]’s house in Mississippi. She collects antiques and has an antique store. This is a photo from her upstairs hallway. Tell me if it looks familiar to you.
I almost fainted when I saw it. It is *exactly* the same. The exact same one.
Down to the smallest detail, it is the exact same.
Love,

Sent: May 19, 2001 12:03 PMOh, my God! It’s obviously in much better condition, but, WOW! I’m pretty sure it’s exactly the same chair, too. I’ll show it to Nana when she gets here tomorrow.
WOW!!!!!
Hey, I’m displaying this on my new CTX, 17″ flat screen monitor. I actually shopped around! It was $169 with a $30 rebate at Sam’s. I usually forget to look there. The other one was pretty dead. Ok, not dead, but it had the worst case of shakes I ever saw. Talk about headaches after a game of Jezzball. Anyway, I moved everything I could think of away from it, including my modem (in case there were leaks). Short of moving the modem out of the room, it didn’t change anything. So, while I’m looking for a second-hand recliner for Nana, I stopped at Best Buy (Will never go there again. PLEASE BOYCOTT!), Circuit City, and Office Depot. Computer Renaissance was gone, and I figured I would get a better deal at Sam’s than going to Walmart, K-Mart, etc. Beside, you know me, three or four tries is about all I can handle when shopping. Anyway, Circuit City actually had the best deal – a 17″ with a built-in mike for $179 with a $50 rebate. But it meant putting out more cash and driving back there. Again, the time issue. Had to take Salty to ER last night and vet today, and, with buying a recliner….
Anyway, it’s pretty cool. It’s plug and play, yea!! And huge!
Thanks so much for the picture! I have never seen another one like it!!!!! Hey, does this mean I’m an antique? (I got it when I was five – 47 years ago.)
I should go. I guess I’ll go check out more yard sales. Apparently, every student left town last week and hid all their used furniture…
Love ya! Thanks again. WOW! It means a lot to me that you sent it. So, exactly how did you get the image on your computer? Did you take a picture and scan it? Ain’t technology grand?
Love ya!!!!!!!!!!!
